The MOVEMENT RDVs

- Winter Cycles -

The Movement RDVs are an Online Series of Dance Anatomy and Somatic Movement sessions designed for home practice & small spaces in times of Confinement.

The themed cycles evolve over 8 sessions of 90min each. The sessions are paced to allow for increased awareness and embodiment through movement that will accompany you beyond the class.

WHO?

Perfect for everyBody! From absolute beginners who want a gentle but serious entry into movement habits to more experienced movers who wish to take their pre-existing movement practices to a more sustainable depth.

WHAT?

The session unfolds into 3 sections:

Sensorial-based awareness: Basic body maintenance complemented by somatic approaches and biomechanical understanding.

Dynamic alignment and Coordination: Inspired by Contemporary  Floorwork & Barre, we study movement motifs and phrases through the lens of Dance Kinesiology and Functional Anatomy.

Creative Movement: Creative explorations through guided Improvisation or composition tasks. Allowing you to tap into your own physical expressive potential and taste.

THE CENTER, THE CORE & THE TREE OF LIFE

In this Cycle, we focus on embodying the Concept of Core not only as a stabilizer of posture but as a generator of functional and expressive motion.

We will look for possible definitions of the "core", how is it different from the physical and Anatomical Centers, and how it connects to the appendicular skeleton. We will study the spinal engine, this primal intelligence in all its limitations and possible motions from where all movement emerges. The core as a space of connecting and relating instead of stiff isolation.

KEYS, DOORS & KINETIC PATHWAYS: THE TWO GIRDLES

In this cycle, we will study the two girdles as keys to the Core motion. Ones that liberate the spine by unlocking its movement potential preparing for greater mobility & stability of both the Pelvic and Shoulder girdles. How are they linked, how are they similar and different, and how their constant collaboration opens doors for coordinated movement allowing for more sequencing in the kinetic chains that link them.

We will particularly look at cross-lateral connectivity that opens diagonal pathways through the core. That final stage of the developmental patterns allows the most basic human motion such as walking; it equally underlies the most complex movement of greater spirals needed in dance, martial arts, and other athletic/sports practices.
